SDM Officer: In any district, where there is the most powerful DM and he has all the officers, the same powers are with the SDM at the division level. Which is called the Sub Divisional Magistrate. The post of an SDM is very responsible.

Recruitment to the post of SDM is done by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Public Service Commission of the states. The most popular PCS exam conducted by it is. SDM is the biggest post in the civil services examination of the state. The candidates who are successful in this exam are appointed to the post of Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM). Definition of SDM
According to Section 20(4) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the State Government may place an Executive Magistrate in charge of a Sub-Division and relieve him of charge as the occasion requires. The Magistrate in charge of the Sub-Division shall be called the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Officers holding the post of SDM can also become District Magistrate and Secretary in the State Government after getting promotion. 3. Maintenance of Land Records in Revenue Works
4. Conduct of Revenue Affairs
5. Dealing with demarcation and encroachment
6. Protection of public land, land registration.
7. To conduct elections of the members of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha in the states, etc.
8. Get Marriage Registration, OBC, SC/ST and Birth and Residence Certificate.
9. The function of the SDM is to do various types of registration, issue many types of licenses, also to renew.
10. The SDM performs various judicial functions under the Criminal Procedure Code 1973 and several other minor acts.

Salary and other perks
An SDM also gets great salary and other perks along with many responsibilities. Many facilities are given to the officers appointed to these posts. SDM gets salary as per grade pay 5400 in pay band 9300-34800. The starting salary of these officers can be up to Rs 56,100.

The facilities available to these officers along with the salary include government accommodation, security personnel and domestic servants, vehicles from the government, a telephone connection, free electricity, accommodation during official visits in the state, leave for higher studies, pension etc. Is given.
